Brief History

Baba Bhairabananda  Mahavidyalaya was Set up in 1976 on the foot of the Varunabanta hill of Chandikhole which is inhabited predominantly by rural, tribal and backward population in the north eastern part of the undivided Cuttack district of Odisha. The Institution was named so in order to commemorate the contribution and goodwill of Baba Bhairabananda Brahmachari, a spiritual seer of high order and devotee of Goddess Chandi, the presiding deity of the locality. The august institution of higher learning also stands at the vicinity of the Mahavinayak temple, the ancient seat of Lord Vinayak. Eminent persons of almost every village of the locality have rendered physical, moral & financial help for which this institution could see the light of the world. Moreover it has gained at present the status of a leading college of Jajpur district with its good infrastructural facilities and excellent academic standard. 

This institution started functioning on 12.08.1976 after being formally inaugurated by Padmabhushan Dr. Radhanath Rath, an eminent journalist and a great son of Orissa. Initially it worked in the society house of the Chandikhole Bazar but, the next year the college was shifted to its own building, where it runs at present.

The College opened with the subjects of English, M.I.L.(Oriya), Political Science, History, Economics, Oriya(Optional) & about 256 students took admission in the very opening session. The college received Govt. concurrence for I.A. in the year 1977. In 1979 B.A. & I. Com. were opened. Some new subjects such as Sociology, Education & Philosophy were opened this year science in intermediate stage was started in 1982. Honours teaching facility began in Arts subjects from 1988 onwards and Science in Degree stage was opened in 1989. Honours in Physics & Chemistry was started in 1997-98 & in Mathematics, Botany & Zoology in 1999-2000. Commerce in degree stage was opened in 1999-2000. Food Science & Quality Control, a vocational subject was opened in 1999-2000.Joint Venture College Computer Education is imparting Post Graduation Diploma and Certificate course since Jan-2001. The Govt. Vocational Junior College is functioning as a separate wing since 2003-04 session in the college premises.

The College building has grown over these years remarkably with the construction of Silver Jubilee Hall in Aug-2002. At Present there are two Hostels. Boy’s hostel accommodating 24 students and Ladies hostel accommodating 100 students. The Boy’s hostel was constructed with the Indo-German Friendship society in the year 1982 and Ladies hostel was built with the assistance of the University Grants Commission in 1990-91 and it was inaugurated by the Honourable Governor of Orissa. In the session 2002-03 this college has further received permanent Govt. recognition and permanent University Affiliation. The College has come under the purview of University Grants Commission under 2F and 12B since 22.01.1990. With three decades of striving for excellence in moral, spiritual & academic level, the mission has partly been accomplished. It is hoped that, the college will take long strides on the path of progress in the years to come and reach the pinnacle of glory as envisioned by its founding members
